Standards and Uniforms

Classroom Atmosphere
The School’s standard for the classroom includes an atmosphere of calm, dignity, orderliness, and cleanliness.  The standard is not one of perfectionism.  It is the model of ‘taking responsibility for your belongings and cleaning up after yourself.’  Orderliness and organization in the student desks and work areas show respect for the students’ work.

Classroom walls are distinctive in that decorations are tastefully presented and kept to a minimum — free from clutter.  We endeavor to present images of beauty and wonder to the children’s thought across all areas of the subject matter.  Artwork, including the children’s lessons, are framed or presented in a dignified manner.  There is no doodling on book covers or lessons.  Respect for the child and the curriculum is visible on a daily basis.

Behavior
The Carden philosophy upholds a high level of respect and consideration in conversation, lessons, discipline, and general social interaction.  The teaching method recognizes each child with dignity throughout the school experience. 

The tone of formality during the lessons serves as a model for behavior outside the school as well as a support to the learning process.  Academic success is coupled with strength of character as expressed in courtesy towards one’s fellow man.  Therefore, traits of integrity, honesty, dependability, trustworthiness, courtesy, compassion, ‘loving your neighbor as yourself,’ generosity, ‘doing unto others as you would have them do unto you,’ self-control, self-government, love of honor and love of country and the like are encouraged and nurtured throughout the Carden School experience.

Uniforms
Students  dress in uniforms on a daily basis.  The Daystar Uniform collection is supplied by Dennis Uniform Manufacturing Company, Retail Store, at 105 SE Hawthorne Blvd., Portland, OR 97214.
